Long (very geeky) story short, I made Ubuntu install and work on my laptop. With no knowledge of the terminal interface beyond ifconfig (and my basic networking commands like ping).

In other news, Yule Balls has started. Next up for me is dear santa (research is underway) followed by Wizard Love (unless my email is lying to me and I've forgotten a fest). We're not going to discuss how possible that is.
Oh, and while doing research I finished my election scarf and took a really bad picture of it.

My snarry_games pieces Transferis and The Weight of Secrets are both up on my site. I imagine most of the HP folks have already seen them, so I didn't bother reposting here.

blue_soaring wrote a fic follow-up to my Transferis art though, which is just so richly atmospheric it blows me away. I wish she'd write more HP, since one of my very favourite fics of hers is a Snape/Black piece she'd written for merry smutmas a few years ago.

I'm regularly working Sat-Mon, which at first left me wondering what to do with my time, but now school is really picking up nearing the end of the semester, so the next four days are going to be pretty packed for me. I have a lot of work to do for my two final projects. I'm happy with my progress on them though, and I have some fun side projects to work on to keep me sane. I'm really happy I've managed so much art lately, since it just plain feels good to be drawing regularly again. As I flailed in my last pic post, I ordered my Cintiq, so that should get to me within the next week. So. Excited.

Today I went shopping, for food and neccesary items. My family doesn't do the Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping sprees. One, you have to wake up at ungodly hours stay outside for hours on end to get into the store and fight with people to get what you want. Two, we don't have a lot of money. Three, none of us have X-Mas gift lists let alone bought the gifts yet.

I've been working off and on on my paper. I put in a few more lines. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish 10 more pages of this. *sighs* I don't hate the subject...but I'm just not feeling it in me to write this. Too much is going on in my life. It's cold, I have other school work, my mom's arm is really bothering her - we think she broke it/tore a tendon a few months ago when she fell - Adam is bitching about his job, the whole John factor, money, India, the economy, me having no income and being too busy to work, my brother having surgery in two weeks, the holidays, war, etc...

I'm just not focused on this stupid paper. And it's due Friday. In fact today I mailed off 70+ pages of paper which was my six sources for my paper to my professor.


John, Adam's brother, and my step-uncle? got his results back from all the exams he took. He still hasn't taken any chemo yet. The cancer that was in his back has now spread to his shoulders. He's absolutely terrified about the chemo and being sick and dying. *sighs*

Oh and it's confirmed Madam Sectretary Clinton. I think she will be really good at that.

Also, did any of ya'll know that the U.S. warned India of possible terrorist attacks by sea on hotels and specifically mentioned the Taj Hotel, back in October of this year?! ...heads are going to roll on this one.

In other news. I officially give up the search for rares. I can't get them. I tried for like 10+ hours to get a damn Autumn dragon egg. Nothing, nada. Not even a split or dino.

I'm competing with too many people and I have too slow a connection and I don't know what to do. So I'm giving up.

For those of you who haven't seen it yet please let me direct you to the brilliant art work I received for hp_yule_balls , Sweet Holidays it's Teddy/James II. It's wonderful and I love it and am still really squeeful over it!

I have read so much fic today my mind is swimming. The R/S from Yule_balls is angst! and beautiful. So if you like your heart a little abused before a very lovely ending go read, it's only 1200 words so go read Before Rebuilding.

And now the fic that was so damn good. The Dragon and the Pygmy Puff It's Harry/Charlie and WOW! As fandoms favorite whore Charlie sometimes doesn't get to be anything beyond a slut in fics but in this he is wonderful. He's still the kinky man we all know he is but he has depth and tenderness about him. Harry is also written very well. It's has some major UST But there is a reward at the end. I suck at recs so just go read, I swear it's worth it!

I have been watching a few series of horror movies over the last few weeks. Interestingly, it seems like sequels not only doesn't have to have anything to do with the first one, they are sometimes not even the same genre, unless one is very generous. So it's been rather amusing at times, accompanied by more than one "Huh? Wait a minute... How is this at all related to..." moment.

Btw, I think I'm totally ruining my ratio on the private tracker, atm. I'm downloading a whole NHK series that someone uploaded there all in one huge file: 16.7 GB! Currently, it says that it will take something like 150 days before it's finished. Sometimes I really love direct downloads instead. ;-)

Also, if anyone knows what the hell I'm listening to, could you please let me know, because... um, my kanji comprehension is non-existent. I must have downloaded the file some time ago, and I found it only today, so I can't remember what it is. LOL!

"They have possibilities, he said, setting the hologram revolving with a gesture. "And who knows, one day they may revolutionise the entertainment industry."

The header will be explained in my next post. In the meantime, I have an awful lot of things to do, both in rl and fandom. So last night found myself scribbling down the first two drabble outlines for a series of stories (drawing on all my fandoms) using the Major Arcana as prompts.

Since I don't anticipate being able to access the internet on anything like a regular basis throughout December it is probably not a good idea to embark on such a project. but when the muse strikes I'm loath to banish it.

Especially since I didn't get half the stuff done last month that I intended.

First though, a quick round up of what did get done in November.

Now on to the writing.

Question for the f-list; I have Word at home, but only and Abiword at work, and of course I can use googledocs. My problem is with quotation marks; I usually use Times New Roman and get the lovely curved quotation marks in Word, but if I bring up the document in any of these other applications, it leaves the curvy quotation marks as they are--but all the new ones are straight! I have a loathing of straight quotation marks, but I can't figure out how to change them. :( Abiword and googledocs don't seem to have a formatting option for it.

It's just that I'd really like to work on alisanne's fic some more today (Boss is out!) but replacing all the quotation marks would be such a pain--and ugly. I want my pretty, curvy ones.

Does anyone know how to fix this? ETA: I can't use WordPerfect either, unfortunately.

That christmas wish meme... (yeah, I'm late, I know, but I don't really expect to get any wishes fulfilled. Not after the year I've had.)

My list, in no particular order:

* Sainsbury's extra power pain reliever caplets... fabulous things! Often, they're the only thing that works on my headaches. Must be the combination of aspirin, paracetamol and caffeine that does the trick. Anyway, I wish for these!

* Chocolate. I happen to enjoy the stuff very much. :D I like chocolate with nuts or almonds or various fillings, or liquorice. Mmmhmm. I think it's fun to get to eat chocolate from other places, stuff I can't get here. (Not a fan of raisins, for the record.)

* Fan art for one of my stories! Yes, I heart fan art so much. Since I'm in anime/manga fandoms now, I wish for art for one of those stories I've written.

* Any leftover merch (no matter how small) for one of my fandoms (Bleach, Loveless, Death Note, Koutetsu Sangokushi (yeah right, as if merch even exists for that anime))

* The return of my muses and the dispelling of the writer's block!

* A safe, nice, and stress-free life. With some good luck and good stuff happening. (And world peace, while I'm wishing.)

* All things Gackt. The only thing I have managed to find in this country is the CD Diabolos. There's just nothing with him! Sweden doesn't yet appreciate his greatness! :(

* Small, cool Japanese things. (For me almost everything Japanese is cool. *g*)

* Things connected to ancient Egypt and/or Egyptian mythology.

* A Byakuya/Renji/Shuuhei/Ukitake icon... Just because it happens to be my OT4 and I've never seen any!
